THE ARTIST

The idea of the performance is central to the work of Erwin Wurm. The artist gives precise instructions on how to complete his works and on how objects, in the course of short performances, can be turned into sculptures, thus drawing attention to those inherent levels of meaning which at “normal speed” we are not able to grasp. His manipulated wardrobes, originally from the nineteen thirties and forties, are both long-term sculptures and usable objects at the same time.
